claude in slack alternative: claude tag vs bos

checked 14 october 2026 ยท written by the bos team

claude in slack is now claude tag: a shared claude that works inside slack. bos is an alternative when you want several named bots, with models chosen per bot, working with people in a separate app on your own computer.

keep claude tag if slack is where your team needs to work. consider bos if you want a workspace built around your own bots and the ai plans you already use. we build bos, so this comparison explains where each fits rather than declaring a universal winner.

first, compare the current product

anthropic's current help page says the earlier integration switched to claude tag on 3 august 2026. tag is available in beta for claude team and enterprise customers. old comparisons that describe claude in slack as a simple question-answer bot miss what is available today.

tag can use connected tools, retain channel context and follow up on tasks. memory and recurring work are therefore not reasons, by themselves, to switch to bos. the useful questions are where the work runs, which models you need and how you want to manage your bots.

compare bills without a fake savings claim

anthropic distinguishes shared channel work from private messages: channel tasks use the organization's billing, while private conversations use the person's account. check its current setup and spend controls before estimating your team's bill.

bos charges no app subscription or per-seat fee. that does not make ai usage unlimited or free: your provider's limits still apply. if you keep slack, its existing bill stays. compare the cost of completing the same small task in both systems before assuming a switch saves money.

try one job before moving your team

use a public brief, such as researching three competitors for a new offer. in bos, give a research bot the job of collecting sources and a second bot the job of drafting a comparison from that evidence. ask both to report in one room. this is a trial to run, not a promised outcome.

check that a teammate can read the work, correct a claim and find the resulting file. record elapsed time, usage and any manual steps. keep publishing and outbound contact subject to your approval settings. the trial succeeds when the next person can use the result without asking you to reconstruct the conversation.

start with one computer and one job. bos runs on your configured machine, which must be available for the work. its download page has the current platform options; check your supported ai sign-in during setup. a separate workspace adds a change for your team, so make the first result worth that change.

when to keep claude tag

keep it when your team already works in slack, needs claude and prefers organization-managed access in those channels. bos is a better candidate to test when model choice and bots on your own computer matter enough to justify a separate workspace. neither choice removes the need to set permissions and review consequential work.

questions before you switch

what happened to claude in slack?

anthropic says the earlier claude in slack experience switched to claude tag on 3 august 2026. use the current claude tag setup instructions rather than an old integration guide.

does claude tag remember context and do work?

yes. it keeps channel and workspace context, uses connected tools and can follow up or run scheduled tasks. bos also gives bots memory and routines; those features alone do not distinguish the two.

is bos a slack integration?

bos is a separate app for people and named ai bots. choose it if you want that workspace on your own computer. choose claude tag if the work needs to stay inside slack.

is bos free if i already have an ai plan?

the bos app is free. bots use your supported ai subscription or configured provider, subject to its limits and terms. your computer, ai access and any connected services still have their own costs.
